Fear of crime
english
By fear of crime, one understands the psychological disturbance of being the victim of a crime, in particular a violent crime. The fear of crime is often irrational, so does not develop from the basis of objective data on the frequency of offences or the like. Therefore fear of crime is more widespread than the prevalence of victimisation. The type of media coverage of criminality plays an important, if not the central role in the extent of fear of crime.
