Seven Nordic research projects and working groups awarded funding
The Nordic Research Council for Criminology (NSfK) is proud to announce the recipients of this year’s research grants.
NSfK has awarded grants for criminological research to provide new insights into a variety of topics, including drug wholesaling, responses to hate crime, sentiments on crime and punishment in the Nordics, restorative justice, prevention of child sexual offences, and more.

Sex Slaves, Monsters, and Superheroes
Think about the last time you read, heard, or saw anything about sex trafficking. This story includes three set characters: a naïve girl-child, an evil foreigner, and a heroic rescuer. In my research, I have shown that the sex trafficking story follows the classic folk tale of ‘the maiden’s tragedy’.

Interviews During the Pandemic: Why Video Didn’t Kill the Audio Star
For the first article of my doctoral dissertation, I interviewed the police and prosecutors on their decision-making regarding victim offender mediation during 2020 and 2021. I planned to conduct the interviews face to face, as it enables a natural social setting for capturing lived experiences. Then the pandemic arrived, and I had to rethink my options for data inquiry.

Youth crime: Causes, development and policy
Crimes committed by young individuals hold a significant place in political and public debate. Research into the underlying causes of youth crime is of the utmost importance to inform these discussions and establish preventive strategies and evidence-based practices.
NSfK’s 62nd research seminar will explore Nordic research into the causes of and interventions against a wide range of crime committed by youths. We also wish to highlight its development and the varying approaches in current policy initiatives within the Nordic context.
